What is the meaning of life?

Updated: Mar 25

Welcome to Walid Rafo Advice!

I am a Spiritual Counsellor and I have opened up this site to help those in need. Specifically, those who are encountering certain obstacles in life. It is a great blessing to be in this position. A position where I can help others just as Christ has helped others. Most things I have had experience with, and others I have learned from. Either way, I do not answer questions I am not knowledgable of. I will take my time to respond if I must. Either way, I will make sure that your question is answered as soon as possible, and to get you the assistance you need through my writing.

This is a question that many of us wonder about. Some of us believe that there is no meaning to life, but that can't be. It just doesn't make any sense. I believe through the Catholic faith that there is a meaning to life. A beautiful meaning also. The meaning is this. To love and serve the Lord and to be happy with him forever in his kingdom. Now, we must dive deep into what it means to love and serve the Lord and be happy with him forever in his kingdom.

Let us begin with what it means to love the Lord. To love the Lord means to refrain from evildoing. In other words, stay away from sin. Now, you will have the typical people of the world who will say that "everyone sins, so I can continue sinning because everyone does it." Unfortunately for you, it doesn't work that way. This saying is like saying "I can do anything I want." As Solomon says, "It is true that you can do anything you want, but not everything is good for you." In other words, everyone can do anything they want, but it is not always in their best interests to do so.

Many of us find excuses to sin and that is very wrong. What a beautiful gesture it is to humble yourself before the Lord and admit your faults. An example I often give is the father and son story. The father treats his son beautifully everyday, but the son hurts his father by going against the rules he has set in place. Now, on your own, without me mentioning anything, tell me which is greater. First, the son who says "everyone disobeys their parents that means I can do it too." Or the second who says, "Father, forgive me. I am wrong in what I have done." Surely the second is greater than the first.

The next is to serve the Lord. Yes, you read that right. Often times there are many people of the faith who pride themselves in front of their community too much. For instance, they refer to themselves as the top of the notch individuals of the church. They showcase to all what wonderful people they are. You get the point. They would rather have others serving them, instead of having everyone serving God through them.

I have seen this in action many times. I have seen many preachers standing on a stage in front of their congregation. They say, "I had a vision from the Lord! He said to ask all of you to put as much money in the basket as you can. He said I must buy a Rolls Royce and a private jet. Also, not to mention, thirty three homes." A man from the crowd asks, "Why?" The preacher says, "A Rolls Royce so that I can bring the attention of the Lord from me. A private jet so I can get to my destinations faster so that I can bring the message of the Lord to those in need. And thirty three homes because Jesus lived for thirty three years." Then, off the collection baskets go being filled to the top. This is not serving the Lord. This is serving money. And you cannot serve two masters. Either chose God or money. I prefer to choose God.

Lastly, is to live with the Lord forever in heaven. This is our ultimate goal. Our goal is to live a Christ like life and get to heaven. I have heard people say before, "You don't need to live a Christ like life. Just say you believe in Jesus and you have faith in him and off you go. You'll be floating up into the sky in no time!" Not quite. You might float then fall down to your death. How do you love and believe and have faith in Jesus without living a Christ like life? It just doesn't make any sense! It's like me saying that I am exactly like Bill Gates but I do nothing that he does, and I possess nothing that he has. People like to make things too easy.

It's very difficult to forgive and forget. Especially, if it's something very serious. If it's light, it's easier to forgive. One day I was sleeping and my baby sister, Amira, woke me up at 5:00 A.M. with a nice slap to the face. Another time she threw water on me when I was sleeping. Another time she stole all my gum. Another time she told on me. You probably think she was nine or ten at the was only three. And at that time, I started contemplating what my life is going to be like when she gets older. She'll become more creative and I'm just about done.

But on a serious note, a case where you have to forgive someone who impacted your life and family in a negative way is difficult. However, one thing my father taught me, is that we are children of the light. Any child of the light, is different than the child of darkness. A child of the light forgives, while the child of the dark will hold a grudge. We are expected to be imitators of Jesus Christ. Jesus looked up to his father in heaven while he was hanging on the cross, and said, "Father, forgive them. For they know not what they do." Who are we not to forgive because our neighbour stole a couple hundred dollars, or even if they made you homeless. Jesus forgave the very people who put him to death. So next time, when it's your turn to forgive, say what Jesus said..."Father, forgive them. For they know not what they do."

One day, I had a dream. This message was directly from God the Father, through me, sent to my father. In other words, I had the dream of God the Father speaking with my father. The purpose of this dream was because my father was always speaking about the sins of his past, and how unworthy he is. How he doesn't deserve to have eternal life because of his past life.

The dream I had was the following. I saw my father sitting in front of a big sea. He was sitting alone and writing his sins on the sand. I saw a man dressed in a brown robe approaching my father, and sat beside him. In the dream, I sensed that it was God the Father. He asked my father, "My son, what are you writing?". My father replied, "My sins. How are you going to forgive me after everything I did against you. I don't deserve you. I'm not worthy of you. I deserve to be in hell all my life because of what I did to you my Lord." The Lord answered him, "Do not speak to me like this. You are my child and I love you just as I love my son Jesus. What did you do against me?" My father replied, "My Lord, you know what I did against you. I'm so ashamed because of what I did against you." The Lord answered him, "My child, just as the writings of the ink on paper are washed away and can be read no more once tossed into the sea, so I can no longer read your sins. This is why I said, I don't know what you are speaking about. From now and on, call me your father, because you are my son. I love you beyond the words I speak to you. Do not bring up your sins anymore and calling yourself unworthy of me. Your heart is a treasure to me. Promise me this?" My father answered the Lord, "I promise you."

You can't always paint your life with the sins of the past. We have to develop and grow in the love of God. If you're always bringing up the sins of your past and saying negative things about yourself, you didn't fully grow yet. There's two parts in growing development spiritually. First, stop the evil. Second, get past it and move on. Many people are more concerned with their past, rather than the present and the future. An example I learned from my father is that you can't always look at the rear view mirror every time you drive. If you're prioritizing your past more than your future, you're driving and your eyes are fixed completely on your rearview mirror. You're going to crash. But if you check your rearview mirror every here and there, but your main focus is what's in front of you, you're going to live.

The Lord shows us the ultimate example and standard of forgiving and forgetting. We MUST become imitators of that example.

When you begin to notice your family fighting, you must go and pray to the Lord to bring peace to your home. Whoever it is that is part of the fighting, pray for them to have peace from God. Even if it is yourself. It is always the devil that is there causing trouble and quarelling, disturbin gthe peace within a beautiful family.

Give advice to your family, whoever it is. Tell them to pray together with you. Be a role model through Christ and set an example before them. Be the light that God has made you to shine in the darkness. Pray to our dear mother Mary to bless you through Jesus. Be blessed by the power and work of the Holy Spirit. To remove the dirty spirits away from your home and your family, and to instill peace through the work of the Holy Spirit to live in your souls through each member of your family.

When there is no peace between families, you should know that it is the devil that is causing such trouble. The prince of darkness gets upset that you do not follow him, so he disturbs your only place of true rest, home. Through my experience in life, I have been seated with many families. Some have anger issues and do not live at peace even with themself. Anyone who does not live at peace with themself, cannot live in peace with those around them. Whether that's family, friends, e.t.c.

The only main gate to fixing these family problems is through Jesus. Go to church and pray together as a family. Receive the body of Christ, and repent of your sins. Together! When you receive the body of Christ, it means you have received Jesus into your soul. Accept the work of God through your family. Without him, you can never find true peace. Here, or in the afterlife.

Bring a priest into your home to bless it, and gather the family together. Let him pray over you and give you the blessings of Jesus Christ through his prayers. Jesus has chose his priests for a reason. To be a visible representation of his work throughout the world. When the priest is praying at your home, the Lord will also be there with him.

My advice for families who are fighting, remember that your tongue and words must be used in a proper way. Be humble and filled with respect. Show love towards one another. You are family and not enemies. You must remember that. Gather together always and get over the misunderstandings. Solve everything through the power of peace and not violence. Through peace is God, and through God you will find true rest.

The most important thing that God asks is to love one another. Forgive one another, just as his Son Jesus has forgiven you. Let us follow the words of the Lord and become his true children, following his ways and obeying his commandments. When you follow the path of God, your whole life will be filled with peace.

Avoid any arguments and always seek peace as the final result. Before you speak, think twice about what you want to say and do. Speak properly in peace and love. Do not harm one another in any way.

The Meaning of Life and Cultural Relativism –What is the meaning of life? –“What’s the meaning of life? ” is today a question generally meant as a joke. This apparently wasn’t true in the past. Religious teachers, from Jesus to Buddha to Mohammed, offered a clear meaning of life. Philosophers from Plato to Augustine to Voltaire to Nietzsche to William James also offered such a meaning, although in progressively less certain ways.

What is the meaning of life? This statement presupposes that there is meaning to life, which is a question with in itself. Accepting the notion that there is meaning to human life, thus denying the philosophical concept of Nihilism. The fundamental belief of Nihilism is that the world, especially human existence, is without meaning, truth, or value.

As we develop into leaders, one of the things we need to know is what it means to be a servant leader. Today such examples are greatly lacking. Servant leadership is a choice by a leader to follow the example of The Jesus Christ and The Mother Teresa and lead by serving, becoming a bondservant and giving his life for others.

Humans have forever been trying to find out the essential meaning of life. What does life mean and what makes it meaningful? These questions have been answered in different ways by philosophers who strive to present what life means and what it entails. Postmodern philosophy presents meaning through influences from existentialism and post-structuralism.

In any case, even if other languages don’t have the term ikigai, people everywhere can understand what ikigai means. It is “what’s most important to you in life,” “what makes your life worth living. ” –What is your ikigai? This is difficult for students, because you haven’t yet made the life choices of work and family that you probably will make over the next few years.

Are the over 33,000 Christian Religions the kind of Christianity that Jesus expected 2,000 years ago? Mark Twain in his quotation did not mean that Jesus was a bad person that no one wanted to associate with. Looking critically at the present day Christianity, it is the other way round; Jesus was as Berge puts it “an exceptional person and believed in living a life as example towards others with kindness, forgiveness and love” (Berge, par 1-3).

Jesus is the manifestation of God’s offer of life and love to all the believers since that Jesus is his son. He cares no less for those who are His disciples today. His promises are still valid; His power has not diminished; and His person is unchanging. We do not have the benefit of His physical presence, but we have His Spirit.

How can you know that your sense of “the meaning of life” is truer than someone else’s sense of “the meaning of life”? This is why it may be difficult to be both a Christian and an anthropologist. And this is why this course cannot offer much advice as to “the meaning of life. ” Meanings of Life in Anthropology –Anthropologists thus can’t discuss “the meaning of life”; but they can analyze people’s personal meanings of life, as a way of better understanding how people are culturally and socially shaped.

“Life has no meaning. Each of us has meaning and we bring it to life. It is a waste to be asking the question when you are the answer” (Campbell). This is saying how we bring the meaning to life and our thoughts and ideas on what we believe life is and should be. I do not believe in the idea of there being one specific meaning but millions for each and every soul around the earth.

It could be seen then that the main writers or proponents regarding the accounting of Jesus’ life and works were written by Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Few words are as deeply freighted as “religion,” and few raise so many questions. If the first is “What is the meaning of life? ” others follow rapidly.

“There could be no such things as prison in a truly Christian society.” I think a truly Christian society is based on the life and teaching of Jesus, this means we must follow the 10 commandments and the gospel values. At the heart of Christian society there should be existence of love, forgiveness, mercy, justice to criminals. Jesus’ command was to “Love your God, Love your neighbour and Love yourself.” By obeying these commandments we are being Christ-like which is what the Christian society is all about.

Philosophers, religious authorities, artists, scientists, and countless ordinary people have thought a great deal about the question. In fact, the very concept has become such a cliche that it has often been parodied. What does it mean to ask what the meaning of life is? When people ask for a meaning of life, they are asking for life’s purpose, justification, or goal — not a “meaning” in the sense in which words have meaning.

This brings me to my next concept of the meaning of life, theistic beliefs. There are numerous religious beliefs with many different values and practices, but the essential meaning of life in a theistic sense is to live a good life based on the “golden rule”, “Love your neighbor as yourself” -Moses, “Hurt no one so that no one may hurt you. ” -Muhammad, “What you do not wish upon yourself, extend not to others.

Then, people having no more respect for life, euthanasia can easily be introduced. We must spread the doctrine of the faith, help people to understand what is the meaning of life and death according to the Revelation made by Our Lord Jesus Christ. We must fight for life, fight against contraception, abortion, and euthanasia.

Jesus showed the way to heaven, by following his teachings. Jesus showed life after death when he resurrected from the death. Jesus taught Christians for God to give you life after death, you have to prove your faith by actions and putting the teachings of Jesus into a Christians daily life. So Christians did this.

?“You will never be happy if you continue to search for what happiness consists of. You will never live if you are looking for the meaning of life” (Camus). If you spend your whole life searching for one thing you will waste your life and it will only take a few moments for time to pass you by. The meaning of life is nonexistent and imponderable.

Happiness isn’t simple, and living a good life isn’t easy. We can’t all just focus on the material; we have to focus on reason, on the virtue of our decisions. I was raise in a Christian home, so by default I was taught about being a servant to others, spreading the word of Jesus Christ, living a good life—according to what God has declared for me.

This is saying someone should do what you believe the philosophy of your life is. Many people go about their lives searching for the meaning of life and how it applies to them but in reality they will waste their lives away looking for something that does not exist. “There is not one big cosmic meaning for all; there is only the meaning we each give to our life, an individual meaning, an individual plot, like an individual novel, a book for each person” (Nin).

And by following his will, God will grant me eternal happiness which will lead to my salvation. All Catholics knew that God sent His son, Jesus, to set an example for us. Jesus showed the perfect example & answered the call to Holiness. He showed us that we should love our neighbors as God showed His love for us; and that is what the Call to Holiness is.

There are no answers for that and never will be. Suffering does not make one’ s life meaningful. But through suffering one might find meanings in life and live a meaningful life. Wu Ngai Ching, Ivy 20189319 Grade: 21/25 ? 19/25 (due to 2-day late submission) Comments: ?Ivy – In terms of the main thesis of the essay, you’ve done a good job delineating your own atheist view on the meaning of life and drew 3 examples from the 2 works to discuss what m ight be the meaning of life for them.

Ikigai means “that which makes your life worth living,” or, more practically speaking, “what’s most important to you in your life. ” Common ikigai are work, family, religious belief, creative endeavor, or personal dream. 1 –Why does only Japanese have the term ikigai? Why don’t other languages have ikigai?

Jim Casy is a symbol of Jesus Christ. He is used to give his fellow people hope and strength by working together. He has several similarities with Jesus Christ in his life and even in his death. His beliefs and ideas provide hope and strength for those in need. Steinbeck used Jim Casy to give the Okies some spirit to carry on and look forward to a brighter future.

You can’t expect to get a sensible answer unless you ask a sensible question. But what the hell is “What’s the meaning of life? ” or “What’s it all about? ” supposed to mean? They may be grammatical, but so are “What’s the meaning of cheese? ” and “What’s grass all about? ” – and I defy anyone to give a serious answer to either.

However, few anthropologists have directly studied “meanings of life” (maybe none, except for me! ) This is because in most societies that anthropologists study, there is no ordinary word that people use to describe what’s most important to them in their lives. –However, the Japanese language has such a term: ikigai.

Review on Chapter Nine What is going on around them, in the social and political life of their power of false religion? In most part of the world, Jesus Christ is not a stranger in concept and in fame. Some books in the Holy Bible were even devoted to discussing and retelling the life of Jesus Christ.

My Opinion on the Meaning of Life I believe the meaning of life is to give life a meaning, because there truly is no meaning otherwise. I believe everyone adds their own meaning to life. The meaning of life is never universal, never complex. I believe the meaning of life should be simple and potentially whatever we want it to be.

Martin agrees with a view suggested by Taylor’s discussion, “that people have meaningful lives not when they are doing what they will to do but when they are doing what they love to do”(4). Martin believes that life is not essentially meaningful but that it can become meaningful if one does something they love to do. When at one’s subjective best, when not disturbed by questions about the meaning of life, are you also completely satisfied at this moment?

Where is the meaning in life when people have to wake up hungry or worry about where they will lay their head that night? I’d say there is none when you look at it from that perspective. In my opinion, the meaning of life is too complex for the human brain to comprehend. People tend to say that they know what the meaning of life is, but who really knows the answer.

Everything in this world is contingent and as a whole is seemingly meaningless. This is what he calls ‘objective meaning’. He went on to say that life has no end goal and that what you do can never be more than you, something similar to what Sisyphus went through. At the same time, he went on to say how life also has subjective meaning, meaning that life matters to the person living in that world in that period of time.

There are various opinions and schools of thought, however, most people can never and will never reach a clear understanding of what the meaning of life is. If there is meaning in life at all, then there must be meaning in suffering. ”? Viktor E. Frankl. Frankl could not have said this quote any better, most people can say that they have found meaning in their life but at the same time, there are some people wondering if the only reason they are on this earth is to suffer on a daily basis throughout their entire lives.

Living a “Good Life. ” This is something most people strive for, but what we all question is, what is it that leads to a “good life,” or what does it really mean to have a “good life. ” Most people would agree that whatever makes a person happy will lead to a good life, but happiness with each individual differs.

Martin says that the problem of the meaning of life is the philosophical question of whether or not life can be worth living. Instead of focusing on this subject, Martin discuses how the problem of life, “is a practical question of how to live our lives so that they are as worth living as they can be”(Martin 1). Since there is no objective meaning in life as Nagel says, Martin does not try and find it, but tries to see what would make life meaningful in the psychological sense.

If someone lives a life believing that it is meaningless, then what is the point of living? For the reason of trying to perceive any sort of meaning for human life is so that humans do not always live in doubt. Overall, life objectively has no meaning but that does not leave human existence in utter turmoil.

Well Life is a Gift of God, Abundance of receiving things. In John 4 its speaks on living water and how Jesus uses both the physical and spiritual meaning of water when he speaks to the Samaritan Woman, He refers to the spiritual side as living water. People in the world tend to you suicide or hurting themselves as a way out of situations but God gave us eternal life so that we may be humble servants unto him.

” Humanists believe that the responsibility lies within a person to determine what kind of world they will live in. One must take it upon themselves to act upon what they deem correct and desirable. Edwords essentially said that life could have a type of meaning, and basically pointed towards the meaning of life being whatever you make of it.

There is a fundamental difference between “the meaning of life” and “meanings of life,” and only the latter can be fully explored by anthropologists. –Anthropologists explore culture: the ways of thinking by which people live. Anthropologists study a range of different culturally-shaped fields, from economics to politics to religion to gender in different societies.

“What is the meaning of life? ” is probably the most-asked philosophical question by humanity at large. Common answers include: happiness or flourishing; love; compassion; pleasure; power; knowledge, understanding, or wisdom; and being blessed, or achieving union with God or the divine; or simply that there is no meaning to life.

The meaning of life is a philosophical question concerning the significance of life or existence in general. It can also be expressed in different forms, such as “Why are we here? “, “What is life all about? “, and “What is the purpose of existence? ” It has been the subject of much philosophical, scientific, and theological speculation throughout history.

Various populations will all agree to disagree about their views but in retrospect you realize that everyone is right. Everyone gives their own meaning to the idea. Purposes and meanings will change, but the overall meaning to life, that there is no true meaning, will always stay the same. I believe the meaning of life is to give life a meaning.

I hope that answered your question. Thank you to everyone who has been submitting their questions to me via email. If you have any questions in particular that you would like for me to answer. Please do not hesitate to send me an email directly or to use the contact form on my website.

May God bless us always.
