Life Is Too Short

Updated: Mar 4

Welcome to Walid Rafo Advice!

I am a Spiritual Counsellor and I have opened up this site to help those in need. Specifically, those who are encountering certain obstacles in life. It is a great blessing to be in this position. A position where I can help others just as Christ has helped others. Most things I have had experience with, and others I have learned from. Either way, I do not answer questions I am not knowledgable of. I will take my time to respond if I must. Either way, I will make sure that your question is answered as soon as possible, and to get you the assistance you need through my writing.

Life is too short. It feels like I was in school yesterday. Too many people take the gift of life for granted and spend most of their time serving the devil, rather than God. My father always said, “The Lord God loves you, and so he created you. But the devil hates you, and so he seeks to destroy you.” Why live your life pleasing Satan, instead of the one who created you, God? Life is too short to play games with God. We say to ourselves, “I’m young, I can sin! Then, when I get older I’ll serve God.” That type of thinking is what destroys you. Serve God now, Serve God today. When you open your eyes in the morning, say “My Lord and my God, this day I will live for you.” and when you go to sleep at night, say “My Lord and my God, this night I rest, so that I may be filled with energy tomorrow to serve you.” Now, that’s the type of thinking we need! Life is too short! So give your every day to God! Give your every thought, word and action, and use it for the glory of God! Remember! Life is too short! I don’t have time to sin, I don’t have time to go out drinking, have more fun with myself instead of giving that time to please and glorify God. I don’t have time! I always say I have time for God, what do you say? Are you like the man Jesus speaks about in his parable who says I will do but doesn’t do? Or are you like the man who says you will not do, but changes his mind and goes to do it? Or even better, are you the individual who says you will do, and keeps your word, and provides proof through your actions!

Growing up, I spent very much of my time with my father. He’s always speaking about our Lord. One day, we were gathered with a group of friends. All of his friends started talking about how they went clubbing, partying, drinking, getting money and so forth. Do you want to know what my father talked about? Spending his time with God! They all froze because it was so out of the realm of what they do. Spending your time with God? They asked. My father went on to say, “You have time to club, party, drink, make money, please yourself, but don’t you have one hour out of the whole week to give to God at his holy church? Why do we have time for ourselves but not for God? Didn’t you know that our life here is only temporary and after this life is eternal? Use your time wisely, because life is too short! Do you know which of the prophets I loved the most? King Solomon. Solomon could have asked anything from God and it would have been granted, and what did he ask for? Wealth, no. Power, no. Fame, no. He asked for wisdom. Who here would ask for wisdom? The Wisdom of Solomon, let me share with you here today and listen carefully because life is too short.

For everything, there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to break down, and a time to build up, a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to keep silent, and a time to speak. Even fools are thought wise when they keep silent. Use your time to live wise.

Take the wisdom of Solomon and incorporate it into your life. Every wise woman builds her house, but a foolish woman pulls it down with her own hands. Life is too short to get angry. So whoever is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city. Wrath is cruel, and anger is overwhelming, but who is able to stand before jealousy? Life is too short to hate one another! Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all transgressions. I discovered that wisdom is better than foolishness, just as light is better than darkness. Foolishness leaves you in the dark. But wise or foolish, we all end up the same… we all die and are soon forgotten.

Life is too short to misunderstand things and think we still have time to enjoy our foolishness and later in a couple of years fix them. The wisdom of Solomon speaks concerning the life you live in. Your soul is nourished when you are kind; it is destroyed when you are cruel. Sometimes love can break you too many times, and so what Solomon says is to comfort me with apples, for I am sick of love. Always in everything, start with God, the first step in learning is bowing down to God; only fools thumb their noses at such wisdom and learning. What gift do you ask for every day? Let it be the gift of a listening heart. How often have we refused criticism? Whoever stubbornly refuses to accept criticism will suddenly be broken beyond repair. Take correction and fix your mistakes. Your body is like a car. When you see the problem, fix it right away, or else it will get worse. Sometimes all the car needs are just a little grease. But if you wait, the more costly the repair. In the day of prosperity be joyful, but in the day of adversity consider. I can’t stand seeing people take a day of sorrow as if it is nothing. Seek to find why you live in sorrow. Is it a test? Is it because you hurt someone? Have you angered the Lord? Why has what just happened occurred? Think and examine in all you do! Life is too short to live and surround yourselves with foolish friends. Find four quarters instead of one hundred pennies. Find four friends that will fix you, instead of one hundred friends who do nothing to make you closer to God. As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend. And remember that a good name is to be chosen rather than riches. Life is too short to act like a fool! Kindness and faithfulness keep a king safe, through kindness his throne is made secure. And answer no fool according to his folly, lest you also become like him. Life is too short, so live righteously! The righteous man walks in his integrity; his children are blessed after him. A righteous man hates lying, but a wicked man is loathsome and comes to shame. Life is too short to not watch what you do think and say. And so above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. Now, let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgement, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil. Life is too short… so make the best out of every moment. Live your life glorifying God, and loving one another.

Brothers and sisters. Why should we waste our time on Satan? Why don’t we use the valuable time we have to grow closer to God, to figure out how to improve ourselves, to stop our sins and prove to God we really love him and want to be with him. Life is too short to lay in the trap of evil. Get out of that trap and live your life in dedication to the Lord! You’re in a ditch and Jesus throws in a rope to get you out, why aren’t you grabbing onto it! In your minds right now you’re saying that you would grab that rope and get out. But in your heart, you shout “get that rope away from me!” Why! Is it the pleasures of the world that Satan plants to grab your heart? Take the devil and put him under your foot! You have the power because you have the Holy Spirit, and in Jesus’ name you can do anything! Nothing is impossible for God!

The Lord will keep you from all harm. He will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore. God promises to always watch over you as you go through life, just like he did with his people as they travelled to Jerusalem. Don’t be conformed to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is his good, pleasing and perfect will. He has sacrificed his son for our sins and you should give him many thanks with full devotion. Now during these times, we witness so many individuals rush in with their words, and many times we can tell that they didn’t think through what they wanted to say before speaking it. Solomon declares those who guard their lips preserve their lives, but those who speak rashly will come to ruin. Your tongue can be a powerful weapon, and sometimes it’s best to say nothing and hold your tongue to avoid sinning or hurting others. How often do you notice discipline being thrown away. Growing up, my father disciplined me in every wrong direction I went. Whoever heeds discipline shows the way to live, but whoever ignores correction leads others astray. I have found so many times that this generation in particular despises discipline. The Lord loves those whom he disciplines. Yet, no child wants to be disciplined! Yet, some parents think it’s evil to discipline your child! If my father didn’t discipline me growing up, I wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing right now. There came a time when my father said if I prefer not to listen he will set me free to do whatever I want, but I urged him to continue with me, and then, I took him more seriously. So many parents who discipline their child get falsely reported. Did you know that? In Solomon’s days, it was with the rod that they raised a child to the path of the Lord, and everyone praised the parent who would do so. Now, if a parent disciplines their child by lecturing them, they get reported for abuse. Why! This is the work of the devil! The devil knows that freedom, without discipline and direction, will lead your soul straight to hell.

No one ever talks about Satan anymore. Everyone only talks about Jesus, heaven, and being happy forever. I’ve listened to so many preachers, and that’s what I hear every time. Do you want to know why the devil doesn’t want you to speak about him? Because you will live your life as if he didn’t exist, and when you live this way, you will never be careful in anything you do.

Life is too short for brothers and sisters. Let us examine ourselves and set goals that will bring us closer to Christ. Not tomorrow, not next week, not this month, not for your next new year resolution, but today! I used to do this when I was younger. I’d say, I’ll stop going against the Lord tomorrow. When tomorrow came, I pushed it to next week, then next month, then next year, then never. Until I realized that this is ridiculous and that my God is waiting for me to accept him! Too many of us assume that we’ll make it to 70 or 80. Do you know how many babies and teenagers die a day? Who’s to say you're not one of them? I recall a saying from my father when I was stuck in my sins. First, he sat me down and I watched the judgement day video in the morning. That whole day, I was careful and didn’t sin once! Why? Because that judgement instilled fear of the Lord in me. And so my father said, live every day as if it were your last. Now, this doesn’t mean going to all your friends and family and letting them know that today will be your last day with them, oh no. This means to avoid sin as if you were going to be judged the next day. But remember, we don’t stop our sins merely because we don’t want to go to hell, but because we want to please our Father in heaven, and to do what is pleasing in his sight. Hebrews 12:14 states, “Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness, no one will see the Lord.” We prolong our life in evil-doing and despise the good, and so we will live in darkness and away from the good if we choose to continue in this path. But be a child of your father who is light, so that your eternity rests with God your Father who dwells in heaven.

Life is too short to be greedy. “For everything in the world-the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life - comes not from the Father but from the world.” Greed is not part of who God is, it is from the world. Oh, how this generation is so filled with greed. I’ve seen so many times a poor person giving more than a millionaire! This is why the rich man in Jesus’ story walked away sad when Jesus told him to give all he has and follow him. Then, Jesus went on to say that it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than the rich to enter the kingdom of heaven. Place God your Father in heaven before your wealth. God will never disappear, but your wealth will not even make it to the grave with you. Do you know who my wealth is? God! The Lord God is everything I need, and everything you should need to!

Life is too short to be talking bad about others! “You brood of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak what is good? For the mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart.” Now those aren’t my words, that’s Jesus speaking! It’s true! This generation is filled with wicked people who pretend to be so good. Why! Truly you can fool man, but you cannot fool God. In the book of Ephesians, it is as clear as light. “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” Why are you trying to destroy and gossip about others? What does that do for you? I’ll tell you what it’s doing, it’s destroying your character in front of others and God. God’s gonna say, “Why do you speak harshly about others, shall I reveal the wickedness within yourself?” and others won’t trust you anymore! Why would you want that! Fill your hearts with love, God is love. If you have love, you have God.

Life is too short to be lazy! How many people do you know are lazy? Sleeping late at night, too lazy to go to work, too lazy to pray, always sitting on their phones, waking up late and acting grumpy? I’ve even seen people fall asleep with their phones on their faces! What is this? King Solomon says, “Go to the ant, you slacker! Observe its ways and become wise. Without a leader, it prepares its provisions in summer; it gathers its food during the harvest. How long will you stay in bed, you slacker? When will you get up from your sleep? A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the arms to rest, and your poverty will come like a robber, your need, like a bandit.” Now that’s Solomon, what does Jesus say in his parable? “But his master answered him, ‘You wicked and slothful servant! You knew that I reap where I have not sown and gather where I scattered no seed?’” Laziness! Too much laziness in these times! Wake up and get working for the glory of God!

Life is too short to think your the biggest thing there is. You wanna know the biggest thing there is? God. You’re born into the world, God is everlasting. You are limited to doing certain things, with God nothing is impossible. You die, God is forever alive. You can lose, God always wins. I can go on forever! In my lifetime I’ve seen many people driving the most luxurious cars with their arm over the steering wheel looking around at everyone, revving their engines trying to get the attention of everyone. I have a 2007 range rover, and every car watches me alright. Not because I’m showing myself off, but because I’m showing God off. Don’t know what I mean? In all my days, I’ve never seen a range rover with blessed stickers everywhere. When I park my car in the lot, people bring out chairs and reading glasses to read what’s around my car. When I’m driving, people are reading and admiring the fact that I’m not ashamed of my God. Some people laugh, some people feel guilty that while they’re showing off themselves, my pride is in God. The outside and inside of my car are white, the inside roof of my car is filled with pictures of Jesus, the blessed Mother, the Holy Spirit, and the prophets and the saints. On every door, I have stickers that are inspirational messages from God and things we should do. My friends call my car the popemobile. Let your pride be in God, not in yourselves!

Life is too short to be filled with lust! Lust can destroy you more than you think. You think you’re enjoying it, but eventually, you’ll come to realize that it’s destroying you. When it comes to this topic, I know just the person to call. Solomon. Solomon says, “Do not desire her beauty in your heart, nor let her capture you with her eyelids. For on account of a harlot, one is reduced to a loaf of bread, and an adulteress hunts for the precious life. Can a man take fire in his bosom and his clothes not be burned? Oh Solomon, if only everyone had your wisdom! “Wisdom will save you also from the adulterous woman, from the wayward woman with her seductive words, who has left the partner of her youth and ignored the covenant she made before God. Surely her house leads down to death and her paths to the spirits of the dead. None who go to her return or attain the paths of life.” Pay attention to his wisdom! “For the lips of the adulterous woman drip honey, and her speech smoother than oil; but in the end, she is bitter as gall, sharp as a double-edged sword. Her feet go down to death; her steps lead straight to the grave. Keep to a path far from her, do not go near the door of her house, lest you lose your honour to others and your dignity to one who is cruel. Why, my son, be intoxicated with another man’s wife? Why embrace the bosom of a wayward woman? For your ways are in full view of the Lord, and he examines all your paths. The evil deeds of the wicked ensnare them; the cords of their sins hold them fast. For lack of discipline, they will die, led astray by their own great folly.

Life is to short to be filled with gluttony. How many times have you heard the saying, “I can do anything I want.” It is true that you can do anything you want, but not everything is beneficial for you! What does the Bible say about gluttony? Ephesians 16:49 states, “Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom, she and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned. They did not help the poor and needy.” You see their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on earthly things. Have you found honey? Eat enough that is sufficient for you, any more and you will vomit. Take everything in moderation. Too little and you will not be satisfied, too much and it will harm you.

Life is too short to be living with jealousy. Bob has a big home, he probably made that money doing dirty work. Natasha has the new Mercedes, she doesn’t deserve it. I heard Mark is very successful, he should be made poor. Why are we all surrounded by jealousy? Bless those who have been blessed with what they have. If you’re driving by a big home, God bless this family for what they have earned. If you see someone driving a luxury car, God bless them and pray for them. If you find out someone has become very successful recently, God bless them and hope that they become more successful. Jealousy’s partner is hatred, and it is the hate that resides in your heart that produces jealousy. I’ve read many articles that deal with death because of jealousy. Stop jealousy and learn to bless and love and wish the best for the other. If you curse, hate, and are always filled with jealousy, the Lord will never make you great. However, if you love, bless, and are filled with love for one another, the Lord will make you great and set you as an example before others. Jealousy is a form of hatred built upon insecurity. People who are intimidated by you talk badly about you with hopes that others won’t find you so appealing. Don’t ruin other people’s happiness just because you can’t find your own. Why do you buy the things you do? Most purchases deep down are bought out of envy, but most will not admit it. Dre Beats headphones sold for $300. Others see people buying, so they go and buy it when you can buy better quality headphones for $40. Even most of the things we wear are out of envy. The reason that there are more immodest clothes today and immodesty is increasing is that women envy the attention that immodest dressing women receive. Envy can lead to financial problems. You might see your friend buy a car for $7,000 instead of buying the $3,000 car you wanted. And so, you go and you buy the $10,000 car instead. Envy affects our purchases and not only that, but it results in rushed unwise decision making.

Life is too short to focus on the length of life and not it’s quality. Life is not about the length of time, but the quality you make of it. Jesus didn’t have a long life. Jesus had 33 years and oh did he produce quality. The majority of the world knows the name of Jesus, and Jesus only made it to 33 years old. If you’re young and you’re listening to me, get up and find a way to glorify God. If you’re old and you’re listening to me, it’s not too late to repent and live a life glorifying God. Put God first in everything you do.

Life is too short, and I can’t emphasize this enough! Stop spending your time doing whatever evil you are doing. Use your time to please God, and by doing this, you will eventually find true happiness. The happiness that God will give to you is different happiness than what Satan will give to you. Satan will give you either of the two types of happiness on earth. The first is he will give you happiness on earth, but devastation in the fiery furnace. And the second is risky happiness. This type of happiness is achieved through committing evil acts but is always in the eye of others that want to put you down because you harmed them. God has one type of happiness, not two. What is this happiness? Is it wealth, power, success, what is this type of happiness God will give to you? It is himself. When you have God inside of you, it is a feeling that no other individual who does not have God has felt. It is this calming presence that lives in you, that is filled with joy because you do the will of your Father in heaven. Nothing will ever bring you sadness or sorrow, because the true joy that has entered into you has not left.

When you receive God, you don’t care anymore about financial stress! See your Father in heaven provides for the birds of the air, how much more important are you? You don’t worry about your health problems anymore, because the Spirit can bear any illness, but who can bear an ill spirit? You don’t care or worry about anything besides God. And when you worry and care for God, you will keep his commandments. Remember what Jesus said, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” Who are you deep inside? Do you claim to love Jesus but go against him? If you truly love, you will obey. To hate is to go against. I went through this process a whole bunch of times! I’d wake up every morning and say, “I love you Jesus” and then I’m off sinning, and I did the same thing every day. Until one day, my father knocked some sense into me. This isn’t a game you play with God. Look at your crucified Jesus Christ on the cross, who died for your sins. Yet, we continue. Yet, we don’t care. Why? My Father always said none of us deserve to go to heaven because of what we have done against him. I hear everybody saying “I’m going to heaven!” and then their off sinning. False hope! False hope! False hope! Lay your words on the foundation of truth! God is the foundation of truth, and if what you claim is the truth, no one will claim it to be a lie, because God is your witness to your claim.

Life is too short, so repent and turn away from your wicked ways! How easy it is to fall into the trap of the evil one, and how difficult you make it to get out. If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. It’s not just about confessing. It’s also about stopping your sins! Repent and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord. Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy. The Lord your God is gracious and compassionate. He will not turn his face from you if you return to him! The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead, he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone comes to repentance. Everyone’s asking the question now, where’s Jesus? Didn’t he say he’s coming soon? Take a look at your sins and think a second time before asking that question. I desire mercy, not sacrifice. What does this mean? God has not come to call the righteous, but sinners! Repent I proclaim to you, for the kingdom of heaven has come near. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent. God gives you a gift when you become his child. Peter says, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Unless you repent, you too will all perish.

I’m telling you brothers and sisters, that life, is, too, short! Many young people might take my word for it but do nothing about it. And then, many people will take my word and act fast because life is too short.

Why are there so few people working for God, I thought to myself. Is it because the salary is too low? Is it because it takes too long for studies? Is it because you're pressured by your friends not to serve God? What’s the reason? Part of where the money for my ministry is going, later down the road when there is a sufficient amount, is to go towards teaching and preaching. I will bring in teenagers and adults to study with me, and send them around the world to preach. They will get paid a salary, they will study with me for one year about why we believe in what we believe as Catholics, we will teach them to preach, and so forth. You see, life isn’t about merely trying to get only yourself into heaven. It’s about bringing the others to heaven with you. It’s not about running the race and passing by your friend who fell in a ditch without trying to rescue him out. It’s about stopping your race, to pick up your friend who fell in the ditch, and winning the race together. I get so upset when I see that in one year, in 365 days, only 8 priests have been ordained to serve God… 8 priests! Then when you check the statistics for every other profession, the numbers are way above! This is why every parent should learn why they believe in Catholicism, to provide reasons for their belief, and then give them to your children. Children these days are being raised to just believe! Why? No questions asked, just believe! And that’s how you lose your children. Bring them up with reasons for why they believe in the Catholic faith, and I can assure you, the world together will not be able to lead them astray.

Life is too short, so make the most of every moment. Don’t let a second fly by until you make sure that you’re living a life pleasing to the sight of God. Don’t plan on serving God in the future and sinning now, because you're never guaranteed to live when you want to live. It’s not up to you. Life is not in your hands. You don’t choose how long you want to live and what will happen in your life. My father always says, “You’re the remote control. When the T.V is shut, open it. When you feel that your spirit is silent, wake it up by doing what is pleasing to the Lord and avoiding all evil. When a channel on the T.V is showing bad images, change the channel. In life when you are sinning, change your ways the same way you would change a channel. Too many people take the gift of life for granted.

Life is too short to let money fool you. Solomon was very wealthy, but he knew how to control his wealth. Open your ears and listen! Turn away from greed, reduce your debt, advice is only as good as the advisor, take hold of opportunities, work hard for what you want, be a giver, never stop learning, and rest.

The first is to stay away from greed. Such is the fate of all who are greedy for money; it robs them of life. Greed brings grief to the whole family, but those who hate bribes will live. Greedy people try to get rich quick but don’t realize they’re headed for poverty. Greed causes fighting; trusting the Lord leads to prosperity. Income from charging high interest rates will end up in the pocket of someone who is kind to the poor.

The next is to reduce your debt. The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower becomes the lender’s slave. Do not be a man who strikes hands in pledge or puts up security for debts; if you lack the means to pay, your very bed will be snatched from under you.

The next point is that advice is only as good as the advisor. Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed. Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom in the future. Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand. Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety. Whoever ignores instruction despises himself, but he who listens to reproof gains intelligence. Poverty and disgrace come to him who ignores instruction, but whoever heeds reproof is honored. The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice.

The next point is very important, and it is to take hold of opportunities. God opens the door, and you just have to walk right through it. You can’t just lay back and expect everything to go your way. He who watches the wind will not sow and he who looks at the clouds will not reap.

Next, work hard for what you want. Lazy people are soon poor; hard workers get rich. Lazy people want much but get little, but those who work hard will prosper. Work brings profit, but mere talk leads to poverty. Good planning and hard work lead to prosperity, but hasty shortcuts lead to poverty.

Next, be a giver. Do not withhold good from those who deserve it when it’s in your power to help them. Give freely and become more wealthy; be stingy and lose everything. The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed. It is a sin to belittle one’s neighbor; blessed are those who help the poor. Those who oppress the poor insult their maker, but helping the poor honors him. If you help the poor, you are lending to the Lord, and he will repay you. Blessed are those who are generous, because they feed the poor. Whoever gives to the poor will lack nothing, but those who close their eyes to poverty will be cursed.

Next, never stop learning. If you attempt to learn each and every day, eventually you will amass a great amount of knowledge. Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding. Search for them as you would for silver; seek them like hidden treasures. Joyful is the person who finds wisdom, the one who gains understanding. For wisdom is more profitable than silver, and her wages are better than gold. Choose my instruction rather than silver, and knowledge rather than pure gold. For wisdom is far more valuable than rubies. Nothing you desire can compare with it. How much better to get wisdom than gold, and good judgement than silver. Wise words are more valuable than much gold and many rubies.

Lastly, rest. You can’t burn the candles at both ends without eventually burning up completely. Hard work is important, but so is rest. In order to stay sharp, rest must be had. “A time to kill, and a time to heal; A time to break down, and a time to build up.” There is a time for all things.

I want to leave you on this note. Life is too short, so make the most of every moment. Use every breath you take, for the glory of God. I am hoping to hearing from you soon via email or through the contact form on my website.

May God bless us always.
