Welcome to Walid Rafo Advice!

I am a Spiritual Counsellor and I have opened up this site to help those in need. Specifically, those who are encountering certain obstacles in life. It is a great blessing to be in this position. A position where I can help others just as Christ has helped others. Most things I have had experience with, and others I have learned from. Either way, I do not answer questions I am not knowledgable of. I will take my time to respond if I must. Either way, I will make sure that your question is answered as soon as possible, and to get you the assistance you need through my writing.

Sin. I love what the Lord loves, and I hate what he hates. He loves holiness, and he hates sin. Yet, we commit sin every day. Why do we say we hate sin, yet do it. Aren’t you supposed to not do what you hate? Hmm… I remember what my Father told me many years ago. He said, “Every day I would come before the crucifixion and say, my Lord, forgive me for what I have done today. Then, the next day I would say the same, and the day after. Again, and again, and again. Then one day I stood in front of the crucifixion and said to myself, this isn’t a game, where I continue to sin and come back to ask for forgiveness. My Lord, this day I come before you for a different reason. This day I come before you to give myself to you.” How beautiful are those words brothers and sisters? And ever since that day, he watches his every step. He said, “before I take my first step into the world, I examine my ways to see whether this step will please the Lord or not.” Oh, how I hate sin. Sin destroys you. Sometimes you figure it out in the beginning, and sometimes you find out in the end when it’s too late. Sin. The reason why Christ came down from heaven, to suffer, and die because of OUR sins. I’m not here to stand and condemn all of you as sinners. I will use myself to show you. I was a sheep, following the voice of my shepherd. Then, I wanted to lead myself, to be my own shepherd. But everyone knows, every sheep needs a shepherd. So, I went out trying to be my own shepherd. Then, I fell into a very deep pit, and I saw above me were wolves laughing at me. I, the sheep, tried climbing out of the pit alone, but I continued to fall. I was stuck and the pit was too steep to come out on my own. Then, my shepherd left the 99 sheep he was leading, to come and find me. He shouted, “My son! My son! Are you near?” In reply, I answered, “Yes master! I am in the pit. I wanted to go my own way and I ended up here in this pit. Have mercy on me, save me!” My shepherd came to me and said, “Little one, I have come to rescue you.” He hooked the rope to a strong tree, climbed down, and pulled me out of the pit. He took me back to the ninety-nine sheep and rested. He said, “All my sheep are with me. Let us celebrate and rejoice.” I say to you, now, look around yourselves. Look around the world. I say with all my heart. The Lord has 10 sheep with him, and 90 are lost. Some sheep are lost and search for their shepherd, Jesus Christ and stay with him. Some sheep have encountered the true shepherd but run away from him. Some sheep refuse to be with their shepherd. It is the pride in most of us that oftentimes separates us from Christ. We think that we are the biggest thing there is, but we’re not. When you walk with your head up in pride, you will fall into the pit. But if you humble yourself with your head down, you will see the pit and go around it.

Sin! I hate sin. Sin is what separates us from God. That is why I hate sin. I want to please the Lord with every step I take, every move I choose to take. Show the Lord you love and care for him! What did Jesus say, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” How easy it is to say, “I love the Lord.” How difficult it is to show what you say. I can say anything. I can say I can fly, but I can’t. I can say I have lifted a truck before, but never have. It is so easy to say, but so difficult to do? Say that you love the Lord if you keep his commandments. Many have said, “I cannot keep his commandments because I am human, then, they proceed to commence illegal activity, get drunk, and steal and commit adultery and so forth. It is by one’s actions that you determine his heart. Not merely by one’s words. Imagine every criminal standing before the judge saying “I didn’t do it” and being let off the hook, and doing it again. But, the just judge will say, I saw you doing evil before my sight, and so justice will be served. Lot’s and lots of people dislike it when I talk about the wrong in us. They say, people want to hear good things, like we’re all going to heaven, and that we are all forgiven no matter what we do even if we don’t repent, that we will all be wealthy and rich. They tell me, don’t talk about how we go against God when we sin, don’t tell us not everyone will go to heaven, and so forth. Come on. Imagine what the government would think of me if I said, hey everyone, ignore the law and become criminals because the courts will forgive you every time. When I give this example they realize. Oftentimes, it can be difficult for people to understand the way the supernatural works, so we must give them an example they can understand on earth. In your examples, include the person you are conversing with in your illustration so that they might feel the truth.

Let's talk about some sins. Lying. Lying is a sin. Who here has lied? I lied a lot when I was younger. I remember dad would always serve us scrambled eggs every Wednesdays and Fridays because we would fast from meat those days, and I strongly disliked eggs when I was younger, today I love it. But, when he would go to the garage to throw out the garbage, or to the freezer to get something out, or upstairs to change, any opportunity that I had, I would throw out the food, and feed some to the dog. Now, I know that was wrong, but here’s why I did it. I tried once to tell my Father that I didn’t like scrambled eggs, but then he would tell me about the poor in other countries who would die just to get a teaspoon of the eggs that were served to me. Then, he would show me videos of the poor in third world countries, and kindly advised me to appreciate what I have been served. Now, after watching those videos I began to feel with the poor, and that’s when I started to appreciate the food being served. Now, it’s not only young people who are reckless and unwise that lie, even those who attend church lie. Everybody has lied at some point. I remember a preacher telling his congregation, “Next week I plan to preach about the sin of lying. To help you understand my sermon, I want you all to read Mark 17.” The following Sunday, the preacher asks who read it, with every hand going up. The preacher smiles and says, “Mark has only 16 chapters. I will now proceed with my sermon on the sin of lying.” Now, how do we feel when we lie, verses telling the truth. When you lie, you feel guilty, and have to live hiding something away from someone. When you say the truth, you feel ashamed at the moment, but are relieved that you got that thing off of your chest. What is this guilt we feel when we sin? It’s the Holy Spirit convicting us.

Next, what about telling someone the truth. At times this can be very difficult, especially someone who is close and dear to you. But, at times we have to reveal the truth as difficult as it might be. Now, there’s a way to go about this and a way not to go about this. Here’s how it shouldn’t go. A little girl goes up to a preacher one day to confess her sins, “I believe I am guilty of the sin of vanity,” the girl told the preacher. To which the preacher responds, “Well, why do you think that?” The girl tells him “Well, every morning I look at myself in the mirror and think about how beautiful I am.” Then the preacher tells the girl “Oh don’t worry, that’s not a sin, that’s just a mistake.” Alright, that’s what not to do. You don’t give hints to people that you believe are ugly while they’re telling you about how beautiful they think they are. Remember, if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say it. But if it’s helpful, tell it. A good case of telling someone the truth would be noticing someone in a cheating relationship and confronting your friend about the issue at hand. You stop the pain from continuing and help him find a healthier relationship. The reason why I am bringing this up is because we sin everytime we withhold from telling someone that they’re sinning. Because you are witnessing an evil take place and you’re not doing anything about it. If you witness a robbery and don’t come forward, the police won’t like that very much, because you’re making the case more difficult when you can be helpful towards the situation.

When we sin, it is very important to repent. Now, there are many hilarious cases of repentance. A man, who has done only minor sins dies, therefore God decides that he is worthy of heaven but he must do several tasks to repent. On the first day he had to wash plates, he had never seen before. On the second day he had to put the beds in which all the saints have laid before. On the third day he was asked to iron clothes, which were touched by God himself. While ironing, he thought to himself, “Am I repenting for myself or did I just get married?” The man is doing the tasks of a married man which confused him! But, if you think about it, there is a connection between marriage and repentance. In a marriage you show dedication to your spouse. With repentance, you show your dedication to God by turning away from your wicked ways and living a life in obedience to God. Not too many people like to think about sin, and so they live their life not caring what they plan on doing. This can be disastrous on so many levels.

The sin of theft is very serious also. When you steal, you show that you don’t trust in God’s good plan for your future. Most people steal because they can’t afford their daily living, so they resort to theft. A man goes to church to confess his sins. He steps into the confessional and says, “Bless me Father for I have sinned. I stole wood from the local lumber yard.” The priest responds, “Well son how much did you steal, it may not be so bad.” “Well Father, with the wood I was able to build a house for my new dog in the backyard.” “My son, this is not so bad. 10 hail marys and 5 Our Fathers and you shall be cleansed.” The man interrupts, “Um Father, there was some wood left over, so I used it to build a fence around my yard.” The priest was surprised. “My child, that’s a bit worse. You’ll have to do 2 full rosaries.” The man speaks up again. “Father, you see there was still some wood left and I used it to build an extension on my home.” The priest sighed with discomfort. “Oh dear my child. You’ll need to do some real penance for that. Our church courtyard could use an update. Do you know how to build me a gazebo?” The man replied, “No Father, but if you have the plans, I have the wood.” There are two different categories when it comes to theft. The first is, you steal because you're struggling financially. The second category is, you steal because you want more and more and more, even though you have more than you need. This can also be seen connected with greed. The sin of theft can hurt others, and that’s why it’s a sin. If you steal from a business, they’re losing money. If you want something that your friend has but can’t get it, and steal it from them, you hurt your friend because now he no longer possesses what was rightfully his. Theft is bigger than you might think, because I’m not only speaking about the form of a physical robbery like at a convenience store or a bank. I’m also speaking about lending someone money, and then not returning it, investing money with a partner and they don’t give you your full share, and types of theft even in a relationship. Earn your way in life honestly and fairly.

The sin of sloth. How lazy are you when it comes to honoring the Lord? Will you wake up early for Mass, or sleep in? Will you do prayers throughout the day, or sit on your phone? Will you fast, or eat whatever is in the fridge? Will you read your bible, or only read what is important to make your life on earth better? Will you act in ways that make your spiritual life greater, or will you act in ways that make your physical life on earth greater? Which is greater? The life of the body or the life of the soul? Surely the life of the body will die, but the soul lives forever. So, it is much greater to prioritize your soul over your body. Growing up, all my friends were talking about sleeping in Mass. A Sunday school teacher asked her children on the way to service, “Why is it necessary to be quiet in church?” The answer should have been to be respectful to God, but a little girl answered, “Because people are sleeping.” We’re not quiet in Mass because people are sleeping, but because we want to be respectful to God and the priest. My friends would tell me the Mass is boring because nothing exciting ever happens. What? The bread and wine turning to Jesus’ body and blood, the heavenly hosts being present, learning about the Son of God who died for your sins, just to name a few. And so I ask, what’s more boring? Sitting through a lecture that’s hours long, or a Holy Mass that’s one hour long. Reading a book, or living the experience of the Holy Mass? You see, people only find excitement which relates to the physical world, and not the spiritual. We must focus on the end goal, not the temporary goal. We should seek to please God and be with him forever in heaven. Stop being lazy! Get up and get working for the Lord. Your life will drastically change when you place God above all else.

We sin when we live a life of crime! Will you give up your crime life because you truly want to repent and return to the God who loves you, or because you mistakenly heard something else? Here’s what I mean. One night a lady came home from her weekly prayer meeting, found she was being robbed, and she shouted out, “Acts 2:38: ‘Repent and be baptized and your sins will be forgiven.” The robber quickly gave up and the lady rang the police. While handcuffing the criminal, a policeman said, “Gee mate, you gave up pretty easily. How come you gave up so quickly?” The robber said, “She said she had an axe and two 38’s.” The lady meant Acts:2:38, but the robber thought she said she has an axe and a two 38’s weapon. We must be willing to give up a life of sin, not only because we are in danger by living such a life, but because God loves us. If you trust in the plans of the Lord, you will always be happy and contempt with what you have. Why go about in a life of crime? Instead, live a life pleasing to the Lord. When you live a life of crime, you are filled with insecurity, hatred and evil within. No one will give you the same respect that they give to the wise and spiritual man. It is easy to distinguish a man who has chosen to live his life for God, and a man who lives his life for evil purposes. Give up your sinful ways and return to the Lord your God who loves you.

Sin is what separates us from God. Especially mortal sin, that takes us outside of the circle of God’s grace. Stop treating life like your God, and begin to treat your everyday the way it is supposed to be treated. Living a life in dedication and obedience to God. God loves you so very much, more than words can explain. God wants all of us to be with him. Everyone is always asking, when will the Son of Man come? The Son of Man has been waiting for quite some time now, and do you know why? Because he seeks all of us to come to repentance, so that we can be with him in his kingdom.

Remember that God loves you enough to make your own decisions in life, and won’t force you in eternity. Plenty of people are constantly asking the question, how can a loving God send me to hell. Your question is misaligned. There is no question, but there is a statement, and it’s this: God loves you so much, that he will give you the choice to choose where you want to go. A loving God such as ours will never force anyone into his presence. Through our daily actions we speak to God about where we want to be in eternity. Surely a man who loves his wife will not cheat, unless he doesn’t care about his relationship then he will. And what will happen afterwards? Most likely separation or divorce. Can it be healed? Yes, but after a period of time to reconstruct the broken bond. In the same way, when we sin against God, he is loving enough to always give us another chance whenever we truly and most sincerely repent of our wrongdoing. Therefore, I urge you today. Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven has come near.

I’d like to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for reading this sermon. All the donations and proceeds will go towards the poor and growing this ministry. Before I end this writing, I’d like to pray a repentance prayer with you.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all my sins because of thy just punishments, but most of all because they have offended Thee, my God who art all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve with the help of Thy grace to sin no more and to avoid the near occasion of sin. Amen.

I am hoping to hear from you soon via email or through the contact form on my website. May God bless us all always.
